About Road Safety Week

Road Safety Week is a project by Brake and everyone! Brake is a road safety charity (registered charity no 1093244) with two aims; preventing road crashes, and supporting the victims. Brake founded Road Safety Week as an annual event to heighten awareness of the extent of carnage on our roads, and the steps everyone can take to stop these needless deaths and injuries year-round.

Road Safety Week is a community event that aims to inspire you, whoever you are, to promote road safety to people around you, during the Week and beyond!

All sorts of people get involved in Road Safety Week - child care nurseries, army bases, community campaigners, big and small employers, schools, kids and young people, fire officers and paramedics, sports clubs, driving instructors .... you name it!

If you haven't got involved yet, then make sure you do this time. Your involvement could be as simple as making a personal promise to start driving slower, or telling a mate about it, or ordering a free Road Safety Week poster to stick up on a notice board. Or your involvement could be much more significant. Many people who get involved in the Week run community road safety campaigns, such as road safety exhibitions in town centres, or road safety workshops in schools and companies. Others fundraise for Brake's services for road crash victims, while also helping raise awareness of the cause.

This website aims to give you tips and ideas to help you do these things and more. We are constantly impressed at the many creative ideas that communities come up with for Road Safety Week  - from road safety puppet shows to balloon releases in memory of local people killed on roads. Remember, Road Safety Week is your event, so what you do is your choice!

During Road Safety Week, Brake promotes the Week to the media, and the Week is often featured on national and local TV and radio stations, as well as in the national and regional press. We usually choose a theme to focus on, such as child safety, speed, or drink or drug driving. But the theme of your event can be on any road safety topic you choose!

The Week is kindly funded by commercial sponsors and government grants. Can you help fund the Week and Brake's work further? You can make an online donation or call us on 01484 559909 to donate by credit card over the phone. Alternatively, there are loads of brilliant ways to fundraise for the charity in Road Safety Week, or at some other time, while having fun. Go to our fundraising pages.

Brake runs many other projects, including support services for road crash victims as well as year-round educational projects and campaigns to stop deaths and injuries on roads. Find out more at www.brake.org.uk
