You did it!
Thank you to everyone who helped make Road Safety Week 2016 such a success!
Road Safety Week 2016 took place 21-27 November. Brake encouraged all drivers to make and share the Brake Pledge, to stay Slow, Sober, Secure, Silent, Sharp and Sustainable, and make our world a safer, healthier, greener and fairer place to be.
You made the Brake Pledge!
Over 7,800 educators, community groups, companies and road safety professionals registered to get involved. All of them had access to our free online action pack, chock full of guidance, posters, banners, interactive resources, selfie boards, factsheets, and assembly plans and activity sheets for schools.
People across the UK promoted the ‘Make the Pledge’ theme with fantastic social media photos, activities and events, as well as publicising the road safety issues that matter most to them.
Over 9,000 people signed the Brake Pledge online, sending our Pledge-o-meter soaring.
The Road Safety Week launch
Our national launch event saw five Brake volunteers tell how they had been injured or bereaved by drivers who did not stay slow, sober, secure, silent or sharp.
The launch was hosted in Trafalgar Square by the Met Police, who gave road safety demonstrations and advice throughout the day.
To further highlight the dangers of what can happen when people don’t follow the Brake Pledge, Brake released six short films, one for each of the Pledge points.
