You did it!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Road Safety Week 2019 such a success!

Road Safety Week 2019 took place from 18-24 November. Brake encouraged everyone to "Step up for Safe Streets” and learn about, shout about and celebrate the amazing design-led solutions that will allow us all to get around in safe and healthy ways, every day.

There's still time to tell us about what you did. Click here to fill in our 2019 feedback survey and don't forget to send your photos to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Step Up for Safe Streets

RSW19 Step up master
8,000 educators, community groups, companies and road safety professionals registered to get involved in Road Safety Week 2019. All of them had access to our free online action pack, chock-full of guidance, posters, banners, interactive resources, selfie boards, factsheets, and assembly plans and activity sheets for schools.

Activities during the Week had an estimated reach of over 3.5M people as everyone promoted the theme through activities, events, and social media.

Our story

To launch RSW 2019 we released new figures that highlighted the level of danger felt on UK roads. We revealed that nearly a third of adults were in a collision, or had a near miss, with a vehicle on a UK road in the past year. That's why it's so important that people "Step up for Safe Streets".

Crashes and near misses can have a significant impact on people’s perceptions of safety, making streets feel less welcoming and holding people back from choosing to walk and cycle.

There are “safe systems” solutions which can help to eliminate road death and serious injury;  20mph limits in urban areas, segregated cycle lanes, and technology which can prevent vehicles from speeding.

RSW18 Our People Our Voices3

We deliver support to road crash victims and know the devastation that such incidents cause to families every day - on average, there is a death or serious injury on a UK road every 20 minutes. As part of RSW, we created five new videos, sharing inspiring stories of our supporters who are campaigning to reduce the danger on roads, to help inspire others. View their stories here.

To further highlight the importance of making our streets safe, we paid tribute to people who received life-changing injuries or whose lives were tragically cut short in road crashes. Read their stories.
